February Mixed Media Kit Behind the Art project..

Seriously I am in love with our mixed media kit we have at the Scarlet Lime.. it's a monthly subscription kit where each month you are automatically sent a mixed media kit.. and then as part of it.. I do a project using the kit contents and post it here on my blog :) (soon to be the scarlet lime site too).

but I have to admit I LOVE finding products for this kit.. new and different things each month. always fun because then I get to play with them too! lol

So this month's kit was full of new goodies from CHA Winter (that is why there still isn't a picture listed on our scarlet lime website.. just barley got all the products in house last week because they are soo new and then shipped it to my wonderful photographer Junelle Jacobson..  so they will be coming soon (except now I am leaving for NC and won't be back until After the 1st of March lol) .. so maybe not . Seriously I need to figure out a way to work on my website while I am gone. You know when You buy all those fancy programs and install them on your computer and then loose the dang disks.. well I do. now I have a laptop i take with me on my trips.. but it's not doing me much good because I can't do any type of Scarlet Lime website stuff while I am gone because I don't have the programs with the disks to install them! lol.. I should really take better care of that stuff. Anyhow.. on my list of more things to do when I get back!

anyhow.. SO this is the project I made with this month's mixed media kit!

this month's kit included vellum paper from Dear Lizzy's new line.. which made for an awesome background for the sky

it also included these new fun clothepins called "whittles" from american crafts.. and some awesome ruffled tissue paper from Dear Lizzy as well

some fun Glitter from the new "wow" glitter line with American Crafts and also adorable button pack frmo Crate paper..

Plus of course my new She Art stamp: stitched Daffodils!

anyhow.. wanted to create a fun scene with a banner on a clothesline.. this is what I ended up with!

today I am off to North Carolina to teach my first ever "private" event.. 4 awesome days with 20 ladies.. for two weekends in a row. Going to be amazing. Can NOT WAIT.  i have spent the day packing and putting together the little gifts I have for them.. making them extra special.. hope they enjoy it!

Happy Presidents Day! Let's celebrate!

I was thinking.. we totally need some fun around here! lol.. lots of serious post lately.. and I was trying to think of a fun way to celebrate Presidents Day.. and thought it would be fun to offer one of my workshops at a HUGE discount today..

I love this quote because I have often times found myself questioning why sometimes I show different sides of myself to different people. I have also found that some of the best parts of myself I share with the world.. but don't share those same things with my family. There are also parts of my heart i ONLY share with myself that I know my family would love and understand.. but yet I am too afraid to share. ANd then of course there are things I share only with myself that I am content on just keeping inside. and I think that is totally okay and healthy and good.

This class though was developed for two reason.. one: because i love the free form of art journaling and then hundreds of artsy techniques and applications that you can apply into them.. but also because I knew that many of you.. like myself sometimes struggle with the different hearts  you have to offer and share.. but not sure how to get to that point. And not that I have all the answers.. but I have found a really great way to help me figure out how to do that..

 

in this class I teach you how.. I also teach you over 30 different art journaling techniques.. actually more like 50! lol.. It's almost information overload.. lol. but I really wanted you to learn all the different aspects of art journaling because unlike painting a "girl" on canvas.. it truly is just so random and your heart can speak freely on the page without worrying about what should go where and how to shade.. or do hair.. or whatever. this is truly one of my favorite classes because of how it opens your heart up to both art and to yourself.

Anyhow.. just wanted to offer something fun today.. needed a little fun!!

I leave wednesday to go teach at Donna Downey's Inspired Workshop event.. for the next two weekends. I will be gone for 10 days!! Soo gonna miss my family.. but also excited to meet these wonderful women traveling from all over to spend time with me! We will have 4 intimate days together.. just seriously creating all day long. it's only 20 students in each weekend.. so it is going to be SO fun. I have a lot of fun surprises in store.. some fun gifts I am bringing :)

Little wonders...

how was everyone's valentines day? Mine was spectacular.. I had the all day makeover with Robert Jonesand Allison Price from the Austin Kade Acadmeny.. and all those wonderful people! Talk about an experience! wow!! (here are a just few peeks of that day)..

me and Allison Price (she is the one who colored and cut my hair).. it was at her Salon..Austin Kade Academny where they entire thing too place.

here is all the beautiful make up that Robert Uses on his models.. that was seriously so fun to be made up..

here is me and Robert.. right after he finished my makeup.. but before I finished my hair (he put extensions in it and styled it for the big reveal.)

Me after them putting me in my outfit and Robert putting on the finishing touches (actually just redoing my lips again.. I kept licking my lipgloss off.. it tasted good! lol)

 I was there all day long and they just pampered me from head to toe.. I got my nails done, had a pedicure, they bought clothes and jewelry for me..  and then my family and friends were there at 6:00 to see the final reveal! I have to admit.. it was fun to get my nails painted! It's a wonder how beautiful they look when they are actually filed and not chipped and have color on them! lol

but I told them it might not last long.. and I was right.. I was in the studio painting yesterday and doing videos for the blog and the February Mixed media kit.. and this is what they ended up looking like after I got done.. and this is AFTER I scrubbed and washed my hands..

 

So funny. It was a ton of fun though and a great experience! I can't wait to share with more about it! I met so many wonderful people.. the photographers were AMAZING and I can't wait to share with you all about them and their story, and then of course Allison and Bart and Robert.. and even the camera man.. I will be posting little bits and pieces of it over the next couple of weeks.. and of course the final video that they will be doing on it :) can't wait!

Another fun thing I was doing in the studio this week was creating my project for the Gilded Valentines workshop!  Here is a little peak at what I did..

I really love this song because there are so many moments in our lives that might seem hard or even  moments in our lives that are the most magical and wonderful moments of our lives.. but either way.. I believe both are meant to be in our lives and small wonderful miracles that help us grow and mold us into the person we are. It's also those small moments of love and truth and clarity that we can hold onto that help us get through the hard times we have and things to hold onto. This song has so many different meanings for me right now. I truly love it... and just wanted to share it with you.

Life gives you lemons.. you make lemonade..

Ive always loved this quote.. mainly because I always dont have the best attitude when things are not going the way I had planned so it's a nice reminder to step back and remember we can always find the good in every situation if we try.

So yeah. I was pretty much gone all of last week from the blog, the internet, facebook, my emails.. one of those weeks where life just throws you a curve ball that requires all the attention you have and everything else needs to be put on hold. So I apologize for not being present last week here in Cyber space.. but i promise there was a reason for it and the reason was well worth it :).

I just have to say too that I am TRULY blessed. I have some amazing people in my life right now and its not by accident that they are here and around. Last week was crazy crazy.. and if it weren't for the support of those people (my family included).. well let's just say.. i am feeling VERY grateful today for them. My heart is full.

So back to life right? I have some exciting news to share.. well a few exciting things to share..

first off.. today is the start of the new Gilded Valentines workshop with the GIlded Girls! If you haven't signed up yet.. it's not too late to join!  You can read all about it here. The projects they are doing are SUPER cool. So in love with their unique gilded style!

AND the second piece of news.. MY NEW UNITY STAMPS ARE IN THE HOUSE!!! wahoo! just listed them early this morning on  the Scarlet LIme website.. so you can see them and order them HERE! This is actually something I have been waiting for.. so yeah! happy monday! lol

And my last bit of news.. this is actually just totally out of the norm for me. But a few weeks ago I was visiting with a good friend and was introduced to these amazing people.. Sunny and Bart Miller.. who are two really awesome people. The run and desiged a website for the very talented, Robert Jones.. who if you aren't familiar with him, he is a well known, world re-nowned makeup artist and hair stylist to the stars. He has won awards, books that are published and is just famous in his industry for his work. He also has a website where he teaches online classes.. which REALLY intrigued me because I always love to meet and hear about other artist who love to teach as well. Granted his art is in the makeup/hair industry.. but still to me.. that is art. Plus most people don't know this about me.. but I have a HUGE fascination with makeup and hair. LOVE learning how to apply it and do it. SO was excited there was a website out there that offers things like that. I never knew!

Well after meeting with them.. didn't think much of it until Bart gave me a phone call and said that Robert was going to be coming to Idaho Falls.. (little old idaho falls) to shoot some video for his website and he wanted to collaborate with me and basically do a  head to toe MAKEOVER on me for his website! I was like what? lol.. are you sure? me?? im just a small town girl from Shelley Idaho.. I usually just throw my hair into a ponytail and call it good while I work in my sweats from my home office each day.. ME? a fancy makeover? lol.. but he insisted that Robert  really wanted to work with me.. so I was TOTALLY in.

SOOO.. Robert is flying into today and tomorrow I am spending the entire day with him and his staff and the people at the Austin Kade Academeny in Idaho falls and they are doing a full blown makeover. Include hair, clothes, nails, pedicure.. and makeup.. and then tomorrow night at 5:00 my family and friend will gather and see my full reveal!  The entire process is going to be video taped and will be put on his website for the world to see! lol.. yeah.. now you really are going to see some magic at work.. not sure he can help this small town girl.. but if anyone can, he can that is for sure!

and don't worry.. I will be posting the video here on the blog too.. as soon as it's ready! lol cause you know you don't want to miss all of that! lol

I have to admit, I am SUPER SUPER nervous! I am not usually one that likes fuss and all that stuff and i HATE being the center of attention. They are going to have a full on video and camera team there.. plus assistants and more assistants.. and I am like.. really? can we just use my iphone and call it good? lol I am so shy when it comes to stuff like this.. so i think it's going to be a lot of great moments captures on film. that is for sure! lol

So that's my news for today. Fun and exciting and unexpected and after last week.. it's going to be a great way to spend a day.

This week I will also be posting my Behind the Art video using this month's mixed media kit! so watch for that!

She Art No. 2 opens today and a GIVEAWAY!

Happy Monday to everyone! this weekend was full of ups and downs for sure! lol. So after I posted last thursday about the new Valentines Workshop class (SO excited about).. I started just feeling SUPER crappy.. like fever, chills.. body aches.. cough.. and by 2 pm. I was in bed and out for the count! it seriously took me all weekend to get rid of my dang fever and finally saturday afternoon I started feeling good enough to leave my house!  My oldest son, Braden was having a 16th birthday party with friends.. first at Chili's and then onto bowling.(here is the bunch of them below.. what cute boys!)

I think the best part was that we had to wait for about an hour for a table so the boys took it upon themselves to open the doors for everyone coming and going and serenade them in song.. each time. I seriously haven't laughed that hard in a long time.. 10 boys singing "hey hey hey goodbye" is hilarious.. but not as funny as when they found out it was this cute girls  birthday and then all sang a fun little birthday tune to her and got down on one knee.. wow that was cute.. I don't think the Chili employees found it cute.. but I sure thought it was fun! lol

 Well I made it to Chili's.. but halfway through dinner just started feeling terrible again and had to have my husband run me home.. so missed out on the bowling.. but still was fun! My son is a really good kid and has GREAT friends. We are blessed!

But it's monday and life is GOOD and I am doing better and this day could not be any better. Best day in a long time for sure!

Anyhow.. through all the hustle and bustle of traveling and travelings.. and being sick.. lol totally forget to mention last week that my She Art Workshop No 2.. opens again TODAY!

Cha and a NEW valentines mini workshop!

oh my heck seriously? has it really been over a week since i posted last? yep.. that is not good.. but I do have a great excuse! last week was crazy busy getting ready for CHA.. and then when I got to CHA.. it was such a whirlwind of craziness! The debut of both my She Art Mixed Media line with Pink Paislee and my Stamp line with Unity was just a dream come true! I have to admit I was soooo nervous.. I actually got sick because I was so nervous. I didn't think I would be, but about a half hour before my demo/debut in the Pink Paislee booth I seriously just wanted to puke.. lol. I started having all these thoughts like.. what if the stores don't like the products? what if they don't get it? what if they just think mixed media is the lamest thing ever?? lol.. and when I get nervous I laugh and I seriously don't think I could stop laughing the first 30 minutes of my demo. But luckily the women and men who were there to watch just right away put me at ease and the line was SO well received.. and I just was so thankful! I was also thankful for good friends who kept my nerves at bay too. always grateful for words of love and encouragement from those you trust and love as well. So it went wonderful!!

Of course I also had the best time hanging out and seeing some of my dearest friends at CHA as well. The Glitz Girls, Margie, Donna Downey, Ali Edwards, Pablo, Tim Holtz, Michelle Hill.. I could go on and on. AND of course loved seeing the Gilded Girls.. Shea and Debbie. Which brings me to my next exciting news!!

about a month ago I was texting with Sheaback and forth and we were talking about how fun it would be to do a mini workshop for valentines.. similar to the one we did for christmas. Except this time.. it would just be the Gilded Girls and me.. we talked and texted and kinda put it in our minds.. but didn't really set anything in stone.. well about a week before CHA.. I called her again and said.. girl let's do this! Their work is SO amazing and they just have such a different look and feel than I do and so a mixture of the two of our art styles would just be so fun! SO I am excited to announce a NEW mini workshop! just in time for Valentines Day.. and it start in like 10 days!! February 13th!

Pink Paislee & She Art..

okay first off! I HAD THE MOST WONDERFUL time in Puerto Rico! The women and men I met there.. were so welcoming and fun and so open to this new way of art. Most of them.. almost ALL of them had never even done or seen a mixed media art project before.. so it was so fun for them to allow me to really take them on this new adventure. We laughed, we cried (cause you know I have to tell my story as to why it's so important to me)it was just a great experience all together. Loved having my friend Mer there with me. SHe was so helpful and kept me going when my body was done from teaching for 10 hours straight! lol. Yamille was awesome too. She is a wonderful girl and has an awesome store! I am going back in june for her big event she puts on each year to teach again. Can't wait.

 

Also wanted to give a big shout out to my two oldest boys.. Parker is turning 15 today and Braden is turning 16 tommorow! Holy cow seriously? I am getting old! lol..

okay . so a few months ago I was in my studio creating and I kept thinking.. I wish I had doodled rubons, I wish I had this paper.. i wish I had.. lol and then  i got this hair brained wild idea that i really really wanted to come out with my own paper/mixed media line! I knew I didn't have the time or the means to create it and develop it myself.. but I really really wanted it, not only for me but also for my customers as well! 

I have always been a huge fan of Pink Paislee and their work and their products. I also adore Rebecca and her husband Barry.. and just threw caution to the wind and contacted her and told her about my hair brained idea. now you have to understand that when I was developing product for Chatterbox.. and for most companies.. it takes 4-6 months to develop a product, source it.. have it made.. etc.. and here I was contacting Rebecca in NOVEMBER and telling her I knew it was a long shot but I would love to have this product ready in 2 months for CHA~ lol.. and she being the amazing person she is.. said.. HECK YES let's go for it!
So I am SUPER excited to be announcing my new partnership with Pink Paislee for my She Art line.. and we are hoping if this line goes well. we will come out with even MORE products this summer.. more masks, stencils, rubons.. and hopefully even other art mediums!

So here we go.. first off I was so excited about getting to see it all in person.. and play with it. To make samples for packaging and the booth.

SO cool to see it and touch it in person!!

AND YES.. that is a vintage plastic doily design.. my favorite one!! Had to do it for my girl Ann Marie..:)

anyhow.. here are the rest!

Of course I had to do a mini 6x6 paper pad.. with all the prints and patterns on it. And as you might have guessed.. its SUPER bright. I also did each of these prints in full 12x12 sheets!! for those who love the bigger size as well!

and of course.. RUBONS.. had to do some texture rubons.. for fast projects!

so you all know how much I LOVE doodling.. and love stitches.. and since no one makes rubons stitches anymore.. you know I had to do it! lol

and of course.. I HAD to do a mask/stencil. I LOVE this doily.. it is one of my favorite ones I found a while ago.. a vintage plastic doily used for home decor and had to recreate it as a mask. I have already played with it so much! Used it with sprays, modeling paste! so awesome. We really wanted to do two masks.. but just didn't have enough time!

and then of course.. DIE-cuts.. I wanted to create a pack of die-cut that allowed ANYONE.. those who have never tried mixed media art and those who want quick easy accents.. to be able to simple put them onto a canvas or a piece of art and have a finished project easily. Of course they still need all of the fun stuff like shading, textures, rubons and other things on them.. so there is still room to play.. but this way ANYONE can make a she Art girl in no time!

 and last but not least.. Tissue paper. you all know how I love using tissue paper on my canvases.. LOVE it. This is one part of the line I can't WAIT to expand on for the next time around.. lots of fun patterns and designs and colors!!

I will be demoing my new line in their book at CHA from 2-4 on sunday & monday so if you are going to be there.. come stop by! soo.. thanks for all the well wishes from my announcement yesterday on the stamp line! so excited.. today has been CRAZY busy.. holy cow. busy getting the video done for today.. had two meetings to go too.. packing, writing blog posts.. the night is still young.. and I don't leave until 6 am tomorrow morning.. so I will be pulling an all nighter baby! lol

oh but today.. I just found out that Memory Box (the event in Puerto Rico) will have some for sale at their store this weekend while I am there.. so that is AWESOME! (they did a special run just for them).. okay.. so want a peek? so I did 3 lines. I did a she art line (girls) a texture line.. and a doodled stamp set. Here are a few of the texture stamps. I had them UNMOUNTED because I know for me.. I love to be able to get them into the canvas.. and when they are wood mounted it makes it a little bit harder.. so this way you can use them without a mount.. OR mount them on acrylic if you want! I designed them for the mixed media artist!

Distressed quilt (this is actually a set of papers I created and then distressed and made them into a stamp.. so fun for texture!)

Poppy Chevron: So of course you KNOW i had to have a chevron.. and this isn't the only one :) love love love it!

SheArt Print Texture (this was a must have for me.. never too many text prints! Specially one with she art phrases on them!)

Of course.. we need a painted punchinella one! OF COURSE!

and now a final peek.. this is SHE was a daughter. I think this would be awesome on canvas.. filled in with watercolor.. or Faber Castell.. yum!

now onto today's behind the art!
So this month's mixed media kit that we had available in our Scarlet Lime store (right now it's only available by subscription.. and if you wish to join.. email me! We can get you on the waitlist starting in March)

but it included a lot of cool thing.. a stamp carving kit, matt medium, a sample pack of claudine hellmuths paints, emphermera, canvas and kraft tags..

I wanted to have a kit this month that TOTALLY took everyone out of their comfort zone.. taught them a new technique and how to use a new product..

So in this video I show you how to create and carve your own stamps..

using the stamp carving kit.. THEN I show you how to do a fun resist technique using the stamp we make along with  matt medium and claudines transparent paints.

AND for those of you that want to try your hand at this.. or if you want to make more than one!! We do have some of the stamp pads available in our store for you to carve with.. they are available HERE

we are also getting more actual KITS in (that come with the pad and the tools) it's so addicting and fun to do. PLUS kids can do it too!

it's gonna be a good week!!

hey friends.. last week was very sparse sorry about that. Crazy busy getting ready to leave for puerto rico this week!!
So first off.. This week I have some exciting news to share!!!! it's not going to be today.. well maybe ill share just a tiny bit.. but I have two fun things I have been DYING to share with you all.. that finally I can announce!!
okay.. so maybe I will share a little bit of one.. as some of you may know I have been working with Unity Stamp Co. on a new stamp line.. and It is officially done and in production and SHIPPING to me later THIS WEEK!! It will also be debuting at CHA for other stores to carry as well! I CAN NOT WAIT! I think we did a total of 2 she art girl stamps, 8 texture design stamps and one packaged stamp set that has 5 or 6 different doodled borders! I seriously can not wait to have them in the store!!

I will be posting sneak peeks of those throughout the week and then when the officially arrive this week.. I will post them when i return next tuesday! And we will have a big fun giveaway and sale and everything. wahoo!  The other news is.. I have a line of papers.. mixed media embellishments, masks, rubons and tissue paper.. coming out next week at CHA too!! and will be announcing who that is and show you peaks of that this week as well! I seriously can not WAIT! I have already played with the products and made fun canvases with them and I already want more!! lol can not wait!

So this week is exciting! AND another bit of exciting news.. my dear friend Margie..just debuted over the weekend her new online Spark workshop for Valentines.. called

Love love love. And it starts TODAY!!

its a week long workshop.. 3 days of projects.. featuring fun valentines projects .. totally Margie and TOTALLY Spark style as well! She is teaching home decor, garland, gift ideas and homemade valentines.. and I can't wait!

It's starts today! and she did a video on it.. so check  her blog for more info and get signed up!!

anyhow.. know this is a short post for today.. but tomorrow I will be posting the video using this month's mixed media kit!! Showing you how to use that stamp carving set you got and to make 5 handmade tags using it AND some cool techniques using paints and matt medium! So check back tomorrow for that! We will have extra carving pads available in the store tomorrow too. I know the kits only comes with one.. so in-case you want to make more stamps once you learn how!
